"The artistic style of Jean-Louis Sébastien is recognizable from afar. It is constant, lyrical, generous and unquestionable. His painting seems to be built upon heat and sand, finished without further call. And over the passage of time, Jean-Louis Sébastien has developed an expressive plastic language which is exclusively his own. The material is sumptuous, worked with an astonishing suppleness which sometimes suggests a draping, or a blossoming out in great marbled waves with modulated transparencies. The colouring is expressed in strong values, placed into contrast by bold reconciliations. The forms are not closed, but most often fragmented like ripe fruits, engraved in the playing of foregrounds open to mysterious depths. The composition excludes the static and oppressive hierarchies of weight. The movement is omnipresent, nothing is enshadowed and everything is in place. Each new canvas begins a fundamental means of challenge for him. He undertakes a work solely under the demands of emotion and priority, and always with the adventure of a technical demonstration. This is what gives the character of urgency, vehemence and passion which impregnates all of his works."

Jean-Louis Sébastien was born on the 26th of May, 1946 in Saintes, in the Charente Maritime. Since 1970, he has exhibited his works regularly in Anjou. Since then, he has exhibited throughout France and other countries and participated in the major French
exhibitions, where he has been awarded numerous prizes and distinctions. His pictorial elaboration from 1976 to 1999 is represented in three published works. Chairman of the Baugé Exhibition (Maine et Loire). Chairman of the Exhibition on Behalf of the Fight Against Cystic Fibrosis (Angers). Founder of the "49 Regard" Exhibition (Angers). Chairman of the Community Arts Association of Saint-Juire-Champgillon (Vendée). Permanent exhibitions at the University Art Gallery (Lyon), Art-Club Gallery (Paris), Cora Gallery (Uzes)...
